Has everyone seen all the wonderful cows that are
painted by artists? They are placed all around the city and the boroughs.
Don't you think there should be a sewing cow? They are great inspiration.
Fah gal New York City, USA - Friday, June 30, 2000 at 00:46:12 (EDT) tube top girl - i recommend getting some muslin and
trying to make your own pattern. if you experiment and get something
you like, you can take it apart and use it as a pattern for the tube
cloth you want to use. ALSO - we are in COSMO GIRL, August 2000 issue!
page 64. check it out!
webgirl USA - Monday, June 26, 2000 at 14:20:10 (EDT) I want to make a tube top out of a cotton fabric
that does not stretch. It should zip up the back I guess. I have looked
EVERYWHERE for a pattern and I really must make this shirt. Does anyone
know how to do it or where to find a pettern for non-stretch fabrics?
I'd really aappreciate it. Thanks. E-mail me if you have a solution.

We've been admiring the fashions here in Moscow and we have to tell
you sewers on the other side of the Iron Curtain that the eighties look
is very much the fashion and that men, even the butch ones are, are
carrying handbags like women. Another class coming up I think!!! The
brightest pink on women and high heels without straps: Walk with attitude.

steffen & dom <steffen.ott@spok-berlin.de> berlin, germany - Friday, June 16, 2000 at 06:56:32 (EDT) our halter top pattern looks really cute when you
wear a "T"shirt under it and then you will be able to wear your bra
without having it showing.
e. sewfast, USA - Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at 00:27:24 (EDT) Question about the halter top - how much, if any,
back coverage does it provide? Enough for a bra?
Kristin NY, NY USA - Friday, June 09, 2000 at 17:33:48 (EDT) there are several books on sergers in the library
or call the manufacturer of your serger, tell them the model number
of your machine, and they will surely have a manual for your machine.
e. SFSE, USA - Thursday, June 08, 2000 at 14:57:31 (EDT) I was just given a serger and haven't a clue of how
to use it. I can't even thread it right. It didn't come with a manual
so is there a class or a book that can teach me? Help!

check out your store. I was hoping that someone out there would be able
to help me find one of those small portable or handheld sewing machines.
I think i remember seeing one used for hemming. I'm new to sewing and
don't have a ton of room in my apartment-typical NYC. Any ideas?? Thanks!

thread a machine - that's what our Rx Sewing class / Fear of Sewing

webgirl USA - Monday, May 08, 2000 at 12:57:44 (EDT) Hi there .. love this site!!!! I want to learn how
to sew. I look at all the cool clothes out there and I either hate them
or can't afford the ones I like!! I really want to learn how to sew.
I have a brand new machine, given to me as a gift. I try following the
directions in the book and FORGET IT .. I can't even sew a straight
line. I come from a family of taylors so I know it is in my blood somewhere
but I just can't find it. Are these lessons really good for someone
who has barely touched a machine before? It took me 30 minutes to thread
the goddamn thing!
RobinY <rscherzer@yahoo.com> Hoboken, NJ USA - Sunday, May 07, 2000 at 17:48:38 (EDT) I went through your whole site....it is awesome,
can't wait for the online mag!! I ditched an art career to solely conentrate
on knitting. I feel like kind of a loser but being a recluse knitter
is sooooo much fun. I went out to this restaurant the other night wearing
one of my knitted "monsters" (a vest) and the owner said to me, "If
you make another one I'll buy it", I couldn't believe it, I was high
all night.... But I think If I make these things to sell it might take
the joy out of it... Also I ran across this website called "atouchoffur.com"
and this lady has found this way of making yarn from real animal fur,
like beaver and mink, it's her patented recipe, it's a dollar a foot,
and it's really cool seeming, I've never heard of anything like it before,
but the whole killing animals thing freaks me out. Thanks for a cool
site and of course inspiration. -Tina

girlie USA - Friday, May 05, 2000 at 15:05:34 (EDT) To: Bama Girl: Getting yourself out there is good
advice. How to do that is another matter. May I make some simple suggestions?
You obviously have a computer so you can make up your own cards inexpensively
or anything your imagination wishes to design and duplicate cheaply;
make yourself a little advertisement about what you do and post them
wherever anyone will let you, i.e., supermarkets, cleaners, you know
the places already I am sure. Once you do one thing, you will be surprised
how the rest will follow. You're already out there with two kids in
a lot of different stores, ask them if they wouldn't mind if you could
leave some of your cards or post them on their boards. Don't be shy.
Good luck. Remember: beginning is half done! You go girl!

WHY YOU MIGHT ASK? BECAUSE I HAVE GREAT IDEAS AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO
PRODUCE THEM! IT'S VERY FRUSTRATING. IN ADDITION, THOSE CLOTHES ARE
WAY TOO EXPENSIVE SO THE ONLY WAY I CAN JUSTIFY WEARING THINGS THAT
LOOK LIKE HIGH FASHION WEAR IS IF I MAKE THEM MYSELF, AND, BY GOD, I
WILL!!!

sm USA - Monday, April 10, 2000 at 11:12:43 (EDT) Hey there. I'm one of the knitting teachers at Sew
Fast Sew Easy and at Elissa's suggestion, wanted to mention a special
program I run. One of my other hats is being a ballet choreographer.
Figuring the best way to keep an audience for dance going is to drag
people in kicking and screaming one at a time, I organize groups to
go to New York City Ballet, we meet, have dinner, and I give a little
talk on what we're seeing. It's great fun, a great deal ($17.50 for
the ticket, you pay for dinner yourself) and if you always wanted to
go to the ballet, but never have someone to go with, now you do! For
more information, see http://members.aol.com/dnceasever Hope to see
you there, and bring your knitting! LAW

Casey NJ, USA - Friday, March 10, 2000 at 10:40:52 (EST) Spring knitting can be a breeze. If you don't like
cotton, get "fingering weight" wool. It's really soft and you can wear
it next to your skin. Use larger needles and you can make it lacy. It's
a great spring/summer sweater. Wear it with a tnak top!
Debbie Brooklyn, USA - Friday, March 10, 2000 at 10:00:42 (EST) spring knitting - yes! i just got some dark lavendar

webgirl <webgirl@sewfastseweasy.com> USA - Monday, February 07, 2000 at 10:38:21 (EST) Oh, I guess I was unclear--my question about minimums
was actually concerning fabric. There was a comment on the Fabric District's

Perhaps that's only wholesale?
ruth <rrlamb@connix.com> middletown, ct USA - Sunday, February 06, 2000 at 11:32:08 (EST) Hey everybody. I have an update on finding magnetic
snaps. I was in New York yesterday, and I just started wandering around
the garment district. Unfortunately, most of the notions stores were
closed. I did end up finding them at Galaxy at 220 W. 38th Street. In
the Clotilde catalog, they were only available in gold finish, but Galaxy
had them in several different sizes, both silver and gold, and not only
round, but also a couple squarish ones. Instead of $4.00 apiece before
shipping (Clotilde), they were only $1-$1.50. Needless to say, I bought
a few! I didn't tackle buying cool fabric yet, but my goal right now
is to finish what I've started!

sell things by the piece... i recommend coming in to the city and checking
out the stores on 38th and 39th street between 7th and 8th avenues.
there are a lot of notion and doodads and trimming stores that might
carry the snap you're lookign for.

Linda C. New york, N.Y. USA - Thursday, February 03, 2000 at 09:46:35 (EST) Does anyone know where I can find magnetic snaps
for a purse I am sewing? I would rather use a snap than the velcro the
pattern calls for because I think it would look less homemade. I am
able to make it into New York, if that is where you can recommend. I
have checked every sewing store in Connecticut, and the only place I
have seen them is in the Clotilde catalog. Buying them through there
would end up costing me about $9 for only one snap. Also, I didn't realize
that some fabric stores in NY require minimums for purchases; do the
stores in your listing have any prerequisites for shoppers?

Daniela <ftrosman@aol.com> New York, NY USA - Friday, January 21, 2000 at 09:26:15 (EST) Why is it that 90% of the clerks at Joann's Fabrics
in Southern California know diddly about sewing or fabric? I hate the
jacked-up prices and the service that is so often overworked and under
educated!! Not to mention that I just plain old RESENT a store that
sells buckram under the label of "Crineline"!!! Snotty of me, I suppose,
but darnit, I'm only 29, and if I know the difference between the two,
shouldn't they? I hate a store that, instead of instructing thier less
knowledgable clientel, insults those of us who know what we're doing
by "dumbed down" and inaccurately named products!!!
Susan USA - Thursday, January 20, 2000 at 13:31:49 (EST) I have an idea to knit a pair of really low hip huggers.
Am I crazy or is this possible?
Rachel <dafoxx_1999@yahoo.com> Brooklyn, NY USA - Wednesday, January 19, 2000 at 23:05:17 (EST) I passed the windows of Lord and Taylor today. There
are some great tankinis in the windows. I now know what I'm going to
do with all that mesh I've been hoarding! Gotta get more mirrors!!!
I'm dreaming of warmer weather and sewing up a storm.

Pamela Clarke <essiephine@mindspring.com> New York, NY USA - Wednesday, January 05, 2000 at 21:17:14 (EST) I stumbled upon your page and think it's a hoot!
It makes me want to learn to sew. I'm one of those mothers who make
costumes by using a hot glue gun. I want to change! What's the first
step? (I do own a sewing machine but it is ancient!!!)
